2022 Q1 - Chapter Communication

February 22, 2022

Greetings Wisconsin Chapter IoPP members, affiliates and supporters!

I hope this communication finds you well and that your 2022 is off to a fantastic start. I missed a Q4-2021 separate communication, but I do have a few topics to cover for this quarter’s update, as follows;

We are planning for our next chapter event to take place on Thursday, March 24th. Andrea Manor is setting up this social event at The Turn in Green Bay. As you may recall, other than the golf outings in 2020 and 2021, an event at this facility was the last social outing our chapter had organized to take place in late spring 2020, but forced to cancel due to covid. So please put this date on your calendar, make plans to attend and get signed up early to help us with the planning. Please visit our event page here for more information.

Chapter Updates

Scholarship News

The chapter established and funded two scholarships at UW Stout in December 2021. The first was our planned endowed scholarship which will provide an annual $1000 award to a senior-level student in the packaging program. This endowed scholarship has been the focus of the proceeds from our golf outings which received a boost from combining the WI based chapters (formerly Fox Valley and Wisconsin chapters). An endowed scholarship represents the support of the entire IoPP WI Chapter which by nature will last indefinitely!

Along with the endowed scholarship, the university identified a need to provide support for younger students being introduced to the packaging industry. Therefore our chapter also began funding two $500 scholarships to be awarded to sophomore-level students.

Both of these have been excellent opportunities for our chapter to provide leadership and support these students financially while opening up access to all the resources in our chapter. I’m certain this exposure and investment will pay dividends down the road when these folks enter the workforce after graduation and give back to the chapter by attending chapter events (golf outings) and becoming future chapter leaders.

I want to personally say thank you to every supporter, member, and affiliate to make this happen – congratulations to the entire chapter, what a great investment and accomplishment!

Award Recipients

We have two chapter members who will be recognized for their roles within the IoPP - Wisconsin Chapter which will be presented at our March event/meeting.

Kyle Kozlowski will be presented with the Phi Alpha Kappa Award. This is a chapter level award which recognizes Kyle for his involvement and chairmanship of the annual golf outing. Aside from 2020, we’ve managed to grow the event year over year under Kyle’s leadership.

Chris DeJardin will receive a College of Fellows Award. This is a national award, conferred by the IoPP Board of Directors, presented to members with outstanding contributions and service to the field of packaging. This is a very prestigious award as Chris is among only three inductees for 2021.

Please join us to help congratulate Chris and Kyle on their deserving awards.

Upcoming Event(s)

Tour Event

Chapter leadership would like to plan a plant tour event sometime in the months between April – June 2022 (in conjunction with our Q2 meeting) and are encouraging someone in the chapter membership to volunteer host their facility. The chapter will take care of the arrangements (dinner, communication, sign up, etc.) other than the tour, but request someone to volunteer their facility and assist with scheduling.

It has been quite some time since we have been able to have tours at facilities and the chapter leadership would like to get a tour event on the calendar. Please reach out to Craig Hable or me if you can help (or know someone who would be interested in hosting a tour event) to schedule.

Golf Outing

And finally, it is never too early to think about the 2022 golf outing! We will return to Royal St Patrick's again in 2022 with the event planned for Friday, August 19th. While it’s a bit too early to sign up, please save the date and start planning to attend this years event.

In closing, I hope to see you at the March event (please sign up early so we can plan accordingly) and reach out if you could help us put together a tour event for Q2-2022.

Until next time, continued best wishes for you and your family’s health and safety.

Kind Regards, Mike
